More Pix!

Anyone who enjoys photography as much as I do should check out this page at National Geographic's Website. Some of the world's greatest pictures are available as free wallpapers like those to the left.

What's this kick I have about wallpapers lately? Since I use my computer pretty hard it is seldom that I actually see the images on the display's background. I dunno, just a whim, I guess. Maybe I'm in a picture-taking mood. Working in a camera store for 15 years really did a number on the shutterbug in me, but maybe he's reviving.

Scenics, flowers, and faces really improve my mood. Consider Anne Hathaway, for example. To me, she has a face that is hard to figure out. One moment she is very attractive and the next she is just another face in the crowd. Her smile seems fixed and totally natural at one in the same instance. Her nose seems obtrusive in a straight-on view then rather complimentary in profile. But with her doe-like eyes the whole package makes her a rather attractive young lady.

Now just because I chose Miss Hathaway* for this example don't think that I'm obsessed. I just don't have many pictures of other faces. Most times when I do try to get a picture of someone that I consider interesting, colorful, or otherwise possessing a great face, I'm told "No! Don't take my picture!" Some of the people I work have faces I'd like to add to a collection, be it the crusty redneck, the plump Latina, some guy with an outrageously stereotypical mustache, or others. Often I want to pass out business cards of modeling agencies for a free sitting, but the lack of such connections is a major impediment.

So until then I'll stick with taking pictures of flowers. No model releases needed there. I have a wonderful collection that I would look at more often if I actually owned a slide projector these days. Sometime I'll get around to buying a high-quality film scanner while enjoying some wondrous Web finds.* Honestly, I looked up these pics of Miss Hathaway just for this post as she was on my mind when I watched a few minutes of one of her movies while looking for a good TV show to ignore in the background while I pounded on this keyboard. But if you are interested, Google her (with an eye on your search filter preferences) and look for the Vanity Fair pictures. Technically excellent photos you'll tire of quickly, but they are the best of the lot out on the Web with an occasional exception. And another thing. This post looks funny with MS Internet Explorer. Go get Firefox!
