You old SOD, you! Yes, it's time for the Song of the Day: "Field Guide to Snapping" from Slang's album The Bellwether Project. You might have noticed the Web link for this album here on my site and if you haven't checked it out, I do highly recommend it. There you can also listen to other works from Slang and watch some pretty clever videos. I'm not sure how I came across this work, but it was well before iTunes was available. Anyway, it's been a favorite ever since and gets lots of play in my car with the volume cranked way up. iTunes puts "Field Guide" in the Rock genre, but I feel it's more of a Jazz Fusion or some sort of alternative Jazz. Maybe Electronica, but I don't think so. Very hard to pin it down so you'll just have to listen to it and make up your own mind. The artist's Web bio puts it this way:

"It is a record of complementary forces, fusing [Dave] Schools’ roots in improvisational rock with [Layng] Martine’s work in musical montage. ... The finished product is a compelling fusion of sounds, both modern and traditional, and resonates each artists’ diverse tastes in music."
Yup ... that's about it. Like I wrote, you have to hear it. Very creative and I look forward to hearing more from Slang.
