$3.19/Gallon - Regular
After tanking up at the lowest price in the area for 'regular' - $3.19/gallon - I took delight in driving home past the Hummer dealer that was undergoing remodeling and I thought to myself, "now where are they going to get the money to finish that?"
My 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 is supposed to get up to 35 m.p.g. on the highway and up to 25 m.p.g. in city traffic. The 13.2 gallon tank would take $42.00 for a complete fill. It easily has a 375-400 mile range on one tank with my driving habits. The 32 gallon tank on the most economical Hummer - the H2 - would take $102.08 at the same price and deplete itself at a rate of 13 m.p.g. highway or 10 m.p.g. in city traffic. Thanks to its capacity it should get about the same travel range as my Focus -- for about $60.00 more.
By the way, the Hummer H1 has a 27 gallon main tank plus a 24.5 gallon auxiliary tank. That would be a $164.28 fill-up and I doubt that it gets any better mileage than does the H2.
