Now why didn't I think of this for Song of the Day before now? "Linus and Lucy" by Vince Guaraldi. The rendition I have is by George Winston from his Linus and Lucy - The Music of Vince Guaraldi album. There are about 20 other renditions of this fabulous piece on iTunes and all are great. If you like smokin' piano riffs, an addictive melody, and the smile you get when you think of the Peanuts kids, then I highly recommend this piece. Its easy to picture Schroeder pounding out this on his little piano.
That, of course, would make it a classical piece, but why are the various renditions on iTunes labeled as everything from Rock to New Age to Jazz and a few in between? There's even -- Heaven help us -- a bluegrass version. The sample isn't bad, but I couldn't tell that it was Mr. Guaraldi's composition. I've marked mine Jazz so it hangs out with the piano pieces I have from Joe Sample, Dave Brubeck, and Quincy Jones.
